Techie Notes

Hello. A few quickie gear-head items. We've been moving applications hither-tither and yon, all to ensure the quickest possible response times. This will continue as we add more features, find bottlenecks and fine-tune our analysis of activity. Another reason is to finalize our systems for remote nodes that we hope will take off. The remote node program is the in-house name for the Affilliate/Franchise Program. With it, we will enable persons host our own services on their own, local community centered server that we'll provide. For more info on this, please see the This Link. One small side effect of this application moving from one server to another is our stats look a bit odd. We aren't proving online the total site stats we used to. Instead, we'll just display certain entry/exit points. Since we're the ones really interested in these, makes sense. One note along these lines, since we moved some Genealogy Database functions Aug 18th, we've received over 47,000 hits just there alone. Anyway, USGenealogy.net is a growing resouce for all your Family History needs. We're adding more social interaction tools but those that have been around a long time know, we've always have a pretty good set of these features. Stay tuned!
Thanks for your time,
cyber

Random News Update III

Hello again,
Here we are at another month. Fall generally means an increase in Genealogy Research. The weather begins to cool, most vacations have ended. It's time to start looking at returning to the great indoors and once more ask, "Who am I"?
Toward that end, we're making more changes to help you do that and have a little fun along the way. Starting today, we've removed the GuestBook function from all new member pages. This has been replaced by a similar feature in the Club House, already present. Speaking of the Club House, this has been changed to allow the display of all photos uploaded while logged into the service. That way, everyone, members and non-members alike can see and share in your families history. Who knows, this might lead to a connection of a long lost relative!
For those not familiar with the Club House, this is a full featured Communication Console. It contains tools such as message boards, a common chatter, file/photo uploader, Event Calendar and more. With all these fun activites available, we no longer needed the GuestBook as a separate, external link.
So, put together with Geneweb, the Family Tree creator that also functions as a personal database of your family, the Club House provides visitors with an interactive experience that very few other web sites offer. That's just on your own personal Web Page which comes free of charge by joining.
Finally, USGenealogy.net is offering a unique opportunity for a select few interested in more than just having a web page on our servers. We're offering a chance to make friends, meet people and earn money by owning and running a local hub of our service. We give you the equipment, software and know-how to host members and grow your city's Genealogy database. Think about it, a customized version of our applications your community can turn to for all it's historical data. Sound fun? Check This Page for more information. It's a win-win for everyone.
We'll chat again soon. Meanwhile, enjoy your late summer and stay tuned. Don't forget to have a little fun too!
Thanks,
cyber

Exciting News

Hello,
Firstly, let me say a big Thank You to all our members, friends and guests. While July has been slower than less summery (my word) months, we've still managed to grow at a nice clip. We hope you've been getting all you wanted and more from our services.
I myself have taken some time away from the keyboard, for tax reasons, but am back in the saddle now. During my absence, we finialized the merger of PCShoals.com and 2EasyWeb.com into our friendly confines. One quick benefit was the retrofit of those servers to a nicely sized set of boxes. Ahh, speed, and space. Gotta love it and we all do and you will too.
Now, for some very exciting news. We've decided to try out a very unique idea for Web based Businesses. Beginning August 28th, 2006, we'll accept Franchises. Now what, you may ask, is a USGenealogy Franchise? Hehe, I know, it sounds hmm, odd. Let's look at the possiblities.
A franchise of anything is a way to copy an idea, or established entity elsewhere using the same methods and ideology as the original but someplace new. Of course the main component is the opportunity to buy into one, place it in your environment and share in the growth. This growth typically involves some sort of financial gain. Otherwise, why bother, eh?
Ok brainiac, please tell the nice people how USGenealogy will use this model. Ok, ok, I'm getting there. What we intend is for interested persons to get a copy of our service. Right down to new members, chat rooms and all that useful Genealogy information. The intent is to more accurately focus on a country, region, state or city. There is a lot of excellent Genealogy data out there, in your hands and in many, many closets, desks and folders. We want to enable local operators the chance help get that online.
The vision is for anyone with a broadband connection to host your own exact copy of our system on your very own hardware. Someone in say, Chicago could be "USGenealogy.net of Chicagoland". You get the idea. Of course, there are fees, setups and some legal thingies but, we'll make it easy. Natually, you'll get support from us including all updates and hey, you get to keep money earned from traffic to your site. Just like a Pizza Hut but without all that messy sauce to clean. Stay tuned, more on this later.
Thanks again for your kind attention and important time. Come visit us often, we're always doing something that helps you, our friends.

Hello Friends,
We've been closely monitoring the GuestBooks in our member web pages for the last several months. We've done this because many other sites have the problem of spam messages with guest books.
What happens is some belly-crawling low life with some worthless web page that makes money from hits will place their url in these guest books meant for friends, family and other well wishers. The result of course is the log quickly fills with tens, hundreds or thousands of these junk messages.
We do know of three web sites that have simply closed down due to the number of time wasting, nothing-better-to-do-than-ruin-everyone-else's-fun jerks. We're not going to shut down. What will probably happen is we'll replace the Guest Book applications with some other tool and encourage members to rely more on the already built-in Member Club.
To date, we've disabled just over 300 of our member GuestBooks from further postings. We do apologize for the possible disruptions members may have had with their Guest postings. We'll make this right. Meanwhile, we'll keep our eyes open for these and many other attempts to disrupt your ability to use all our services.
We're here for all good, well meaning Genealogy Researchers both here in the US and World-Wide. Let us know how we are doing.
Take care of yourself and all those you know and care about. Thanks for your time,
cyber
